Seaweeds, sodium, sun and seawater. These are the simple ingredients of thalassotherapy, or sea therapy, a natural remedy dating back to ancient Greece that came back into fashion in France during the 19th century and is now widly used in the spas ofthe world. Combining the benefits of seawater with those of the marine climate, thalassotherapy betters the skin and reduces bone and muscular pains.
To begin with, you might want to take a look at the criteria established by the Fédération Internationale de Thalassotherapie. To be authentic, thalassotherapy needs to follow some basic rules: the water should not be carried from somehwhere else; it should be extracted locally from the open sea, where its properties are unaltered.
That’s why a thalassotherapy spa should always be located at the sea, allowing its visitors to enjoy the marine climate. Once extracted, the water can be used for several beauty and wellness treatments such as warm baths and body wraps with fresh or dried seaweeds.
