A nazi-era bunker turned into a 3,000-square-meter art gallery hosting works by Olafur Eliasson, Damien Hirst, Terence Koh and other contemporary artists.
Only in Berlin could such a place exist.
The mind behind this brilliant idea is Christian Boros, a Polish-born collector and advertising entrepreneur who amassed over twenty years an amazing art collection, now on display inside this unique space.
An imposing witness of Berlin’s history, the five-storey concrete bunker – built in 1942 to shelter some 2,000 people – has formerly been a tropical fruit warehouse and a night club. Today, after an award-winning restoration project by Berlin-based studio Realarchitektur, in contains 80 works of art that you can see by appointment.
The waiting list is quite long, but the place is worth the wait. Reserve three months in advance and you’ll be allowed into Berlin’s best kept secret.
