Art in the time of business
The relationship between art and trade has always been difficult and controversial: in order to gain visibility, art needs to sell, and yet whatever becomes commercial is perpetually questioned as far as its artistic value is concerned.
Who said that a private gallery cannot turn into a space devoted to high-quality exhibitions? \u2028Picking up this challenge, Nicolò Cardi – the heir of a family with a 30-year experience in art dealing and a young entrepreneur with a specialization in arts management – founded Cardi Black Box, an independent contemporary gallery, born as a private cultural institution with an almost ‘museum-like’ vocation. The gallery’s experimental approach embraces a double mission -culture and business – to promote quality, regardless of the origin or the age of the artists.
The name “Black Box” corresponds to the choice of identifying with the content of the exhibitions the gallery stages rather than the architectonic space of the gallery: black is the colour obtained by the superimposition of layers of painting but also of shapes, images, thoughts, ideas and experiences.
