A room with a view
The ‘view’ from the title is the amazing view on the Mediterranean sea. A blinding view, with a clear and almost violent light and sharp, contrasting colors – blue sky, white-snow houses, a red stack emerging from the deepe blue sea.
That’s basically what you’ll see from your room – whatever category you choose – at Tholos Resort in Imerovigli, a village clinging to the steep north-western coastline of Santorini, one of the most beautiful islands on the Aegean Sea.
Like the other resorts in Imerovigli, Tholos is more like a multi-building hotel scattered through an ancient village of charming white houses with blue doors and windows. In other words, you’ll get the feeling that you’ve finally achieved the proverbial Greek retreat to an unbelievably beautiful island, where the bad financial crisis that the rest of the nation is going through seems to be a thousand light years away.
The day starts with a luxurious breakast on our private balcony – greek yogurt, fresh fruits, croissants and other delights – then it’s up to you to decide whether to plunge into the infinity pool or exploring the island’s beaches.
Just rent a motorbike or a car for a couple of days and you’ll manage to visit all the must-sees of this small and yet amazing island.
Before dinner, the inevitable ritual at Tholos is watching the sunset while sipping on a glass of local wine – some say the sunset from here is even better than from Oia, the wonderful village on the northern tip of the island where tourists crowd together in the evening to applaude the setting sun.
