Art, books & design
A publishing house, a bookshop and an art gallery. Everything started back in 2009, when Elena Ochoa Foster, founder of a publishing house called Ivorypress and specializing in art and photo books, launched a pioneering project in Madrid.
The project was called Ivorypress Art + Books and it’s a unique space bringing together the normally separate worlds of art and books, creating major gallery spaces with a connected bookshop specialising in art, photography, design and architecture.
Created out of an existing printing house and garage by architect Norman Foster with Foster + Partners, Art + Books has quite an impressive main open space of 800 square meters, a lofty area that can be accessed through a dramatic entrance ramp directly from the street.
While regularly hosting temporary exhibitions, the gallery also has a permanent collection of artist’s books by Francis Bacon, Cai Guo-Qiang, Anthony Caro, Eduardo Chillida, Damien Hirst, Anish Kapoor, Anselm Kiefer, Richard Long, Isamu Noguchi and Richard Tuttle.
The bookshop offers rare books, limited editions, out-of-print catalogues and a unique selection of books on photography, art, architecture and design.
If you happen to be in Madrid, do not miss to drop by. Check out their exhibitions calendar here.
