Childhood memories
London, Fitzrovia. If you happen to walk along Scala Street and feel an irresistible urge to stop in front of the green and red windows of Pollock’s Toy Museum, do not try to resist.
Enter without hesitation, because behind those very windows hides an enchanted and lost world: shelves loaded with old toys, narrow winding stairs and the unmistakable smell of wood and paper.
Born in1956, London’s most nostalgic museum is named after Benjamin Pollock, a famous printer of toy theatres – paper or wooden theatres, some with an extraordinary level of detail, allowing children to stage their own productions at home back in the Victorian era.
Along with toy theatres and original puppets, visitors can also view a large collection of toys from around the world and belonging to different time periods filling every corner of the museum.
Train sets, teddy bears, doll’s houses, wax and china dolls, board games, and mechanical toys…
Like a very special cabinet of curiosities, Pollock’s Toy Museum has the magic power of plunging you into the past – the charming past of Victorian London as well as your own past.
You won’t help being swept away by childhood memories.
