Dante in a cave
Veined marble, flowing water and supernatural colors. The first contact with the ancient cave of Ornavasso (Verbania) – where the pink marble of Milan’s major monuments, including Duomo and the Arch of Peace, was extracted – is an all-sensorial experience.
In this amazing scenery, Italy’s most important literary masterpiece, The Divine Comedy, will come into life through the voice of actress Anna Cuculo and the Medievval musical instruments of Daniele Montagner and Paolo Lova.Down in the bowels of the earth, in the dim light of the candles, the performance will recall some of the most famous characters from Dante’s canticas – Paolo and Francesca, Ulysses, Count Ugolino – in a long journey towards redemption that will take the audience through Purgattory and finally “again to see the stars”.
The whole performance will be staged inside the cave’s natural environment, at around 46 degrees Fahrenheit. Don’t forget to bring your coat!
“Amor che ne la mente mi ragiona”, Ancient Cave of Ornavasso (Verbania) - Sunday, April 29 (peformances at 3 pm,6 pm and 9pm). Buy tickets
