Design for Dummies
Although, like Gio Ponti used to say, architecture is an Italian vocation, the design world still seems to be quite far from the real one – confined to universities, designers and a few, wealthy connoisseurs.
In other words, what we are missing is a good popularization of the subject. Which is why Gruppo RCS – Rizzoli Corriere della Sera decided to launch MEET DESIGN, a project entirely devoted to the spreading of Italian design through a wide-ranging selection of events.
Following the first stage, which took place in Rome last October, MEET DESIGN has now come to Turin with a great calendar of meetings, conferences, presentations and expositions, all of which have been divided into three main sections.
Meet Show, the core of the event, features a huge travelling exhibition telling the history of Italian design as related to our everyday life. Thus, the exhibits are not displayed according to the author but according to their function and their time.
Meet Talents is a showcase for the fresh and custom-made work of 18 young and talented Italian designers, while Meet People is a conference cycle on the history of design and its protagonists, offering to all visitors the chance to meet some internationally renowed designers and enlightened enterpreneurs.
Turin, Palazzo Bertalazone di San Fermo. Until January 25, 2012.
