Genuine aperitivo
Buffalo mozzarella and ricotta cheese from Campania, brick oven baked rustic bread, knife-cut prosciutto from Irpinia, puccia bread from Apulia, roast sucking pig from Ariccia, Vesuvian cherry tomatoes, bronze-drawn pasta…
The list is even longer and the products, all unmistakably coming from southern Italy, are kept inside the small grocery (or Bottega) owned by Salvatore Lione, a former IT guy who decided to trade the greyness of the office cubicle for the tastes of his own land, Campania, devoting himself full time to the task of spreading them through the city of risotto.
Close to Corso Sempione and the nightlife district, Bottega is the slow alternative to the classic Milanese aperitivo, based on liquor drinks and sumptuous junk food buffets. Salvatore’s own adaptation of the aperitivo ritual is a very special version of the “all you can eat” concept.
“Magnà no stop” (eat non-stop) includes a glass of wine and an endless series of tastes from the small treasure mine that hides behind the counter.
Before giving up, we tried two different kinds of mozzarella, some delicious knife-cut prosciutto, homemade vegetables in oil and a gorgeous pizza, all of it accompanied by rustic bread and washed down with an excellent glass of Fiano d’Avellino.
In case you’re wondering how much we spent, the check amounted to 10 euros per person. We also bought a jar of eggplants in oil and got a free whole buffalo ricotta!
