Green Christmas (part 1)
What about forgetting about White Christmas and making this Christmas a Green one instead? Let’s start from the decorations: here are a few tips for minimizing your carbon footprint without giving up the festive atmosphere.
THE X’MAS TREE: REAL OR FAKE?
Here’s an age-old problem that finally seems to have been solved in favour of real trees; apparently, artificial Christmas trees have a carbon footprint at least ten times larger than a real tree and take over 200 years to degrade.
The best option would obviously be transplanting your real tree in the garden after Christmas. Or you could deck the plants and trees that are already in your backyard or balcony. If you’re looking for a nice alternative to the artficicial plastic tree, take a look at these amazing cardboard trees, adding a touch of design to your festivity.
CREATIVE DECORATIONS
There’s no denying it: buying your new Christmas balls at a sweet little Christmas market is a real pleasure. Still, why not try something different for a change?
Your green instinct suggests going for recycling and creativity: check out these funky eco friendly decorations made from recycled circuit boards and recycled CDs.
Or you could venture on a miniature gardening session and build a tiny garden inside your glass Christmas ball – to be strictly transplanted after the holidays!
CLEVER LIGHTS
If energy saving is yor mantra, then yoi should not forget to turn off yoiur christmas lights for the night. You might also consider opting for LED lights – besides looking great, they use as much as 95 percent less electricity than their inefficient predecessors and last up to 10 times longer.
A GREEN CHRISTMAS CRIB
Remember when you were still a kid and had fun making your Christmas crib statues from old clothes pegs and other simple stuff? Well, why not do it again this year? If you’re missing time or manual ability, just go for this cute recycled cardboard crib.
