Myspace strikes back
Sooner or later the announcement had to come: Myspace, the first successful social network ever, is back with great news. After being aquired by Ruper Murdoch back in 2005 for a good 580 million dollars, it later turned out to be a missed opportunity and a wrong investment – to the point that, last year, News Corp sold it to Specific Media for barely 35 millions.
But soon Myspace will debut with a brand new and totally rivisited platform, Myspace TV. The announcement has been made by one of the most beloved and well-known pop (and movie) stars in the world, Justin Timberlake – who incidentally owns part of the new Myspace.
“ Why text or email your friends to talk about your favorite programs after they’ve aired when you could be sharing the experience with real-time interactivity from anywhere across the globe?”, said Timberlake during the press conference. In a sense, Myspace TV promises to bring you back to the days when watching TV used to be a social experience – “when we’d all get together around the seat and watch the Cosbys”, according to Timberlake – against the current trend of watching fragmented videos on YouTube.
Myspace TV will debut next spring, treasuring one of the most impressive user-uploaded music and video libraries on the planet. The music channels will later be expanded to include news, sports, and reality TV.
The know-how and the tech support will be provided by Panasonic and their their Viera Connect platform
Hard to say whether this is going to be the invention of the year or the first flop of 2012. What we know for sure is that there are quite a few Apps already offering some of the announced features of Myspace Tv. We’ll wait and see.
