Officina Slowear London
The global expansion of Officina Slowear’s retail network goes on. After opening in Milan, Udine, Treviso, Roma, Paris and Seoul, Officina Slowear finally comes to London.
The location -Â South Molton Street in Mayfair – is an eclectic mix of international luxury retailers and superb independents.
While very close to busy Oxford Street, the South Molton Street area is quite a cultural one, and it seems to be light years away from the trendy atmosphere of London’s mainstream shopping district; wandering around this small collection of streets, it is not uncommon to bump into an antiques shop or an historical building – including the house where William Blake wrote some of his most famous works
The concept behind London’s Officina Slowear is the same which gave birth to all the other stores of the group: embodying the authentic spirit of Slowear by using different languages, inspired by the place where the new shop is built.
In this case, a black smoked oak parquet floor with an irregular shape cut in diagonals and a back lighted back wall are the main coordinates of the store.
The relaxed elegance of this space is enriched with a huge art nouveau counter placed in the middle of the store, the marvellous Italian banana shape green sofa from the 40’s and the burnished brass and smoked glass wardrobes with a Sixties wallpaper in the back.
The colors are warm white, light blue-grey and blue-black, always mixed up in different ways. You can find them in the ceiling, in the back wall and in the drawers with geometrical handles whose design was inspired by Gio Ponti.
As usual, the lounge is the heart of the store, furnished with armchairs, a lamp from the Fifties and a red Berber carpet.
As architect Carlo Donati explains, “the Officina Slowear retail project is something very far from the mainstream luxury fashion boutique, from the idea of a shopping cathedral, generally huge, cold and expensive”.
On the contrary, the aim is to build a warm and comfortable space, a home-like place where to enjoy a slow shopping experience and take your time for sitting and browsing the web – or maybe have a drink of Prosecco in the lounge while listening to some good music.
