Now that we’re all set with our low-impact decorations, all we need to do is choose the right gifts to make our Christmas extensively green. Here are a few ideas that you might draw inspiration from – but don’t forget to use recycled wrapping paper!

Adopt an acre of pluvial forest
Why not compensate yout family’s holiday carbon footprint by adopting a scrap of vital landscape at risk in the world?
The Nature Conservancy gives you the chance to give some support as a gift.

Dishwasher cooking recipe book
Weird as it seems, this is a winning idea: cooking your food inside air-tight jars by using the heat of your regular dishwasher cleaning cycles.
This book is the perfect gift for the ever-experimenting foodie.

Green Toys
When you think of green toys, your mind sets on those cute old-fashioned wooden toys.

Yet, in order to be green a toy needs to be manufactured with local materials, saving energy as much as possible and using sustainable packagings.

Fair-trade products
This year, forget about your traditional Christmas cake and choose a refined selection of fair-trade South American chocolate instead.

Cruelty-free shoes
Do you have a vegetarian friend? Just surprise him or her with a nice pair of Vegetarian Shoes, the British shoes made out of recycled materials and strictly leather-free.

Green knick-knacks
Zud Design is a small Italian workshop producing super-sweet objects and sculptures with ancient tools, mechanical parts, pieces of wood, cardboard, used packagings and other recycled materials.

Voltaic solar charger
The essential tool for thrifty geeks: a lightweight way to add solar and battery power to any bag, for charging the devices that we take around with us every day – from smartphones to tablets and laptops.

Vegetable garden table
It’s great to have your own vegetable garden on the balcony and to grow fresh organic produce with no carbon footprint at all. But what if you don’t have a balcony? The guys at Orti Urbani designed a clever vegetable garden table – it’s small, movable and, in a way, an amazing piece of furniture.
