Obama’s playlist
Every presidential campaign has its own anthems and soundtrack, but no one ever had a proper official playlist before.
Last Thursday, Barack Obama, America’s first ‘geek’ President, disclosed his own official playlist for the 2012 presidential campaign on Spotify (and Twitter).
The list includes 28 diverse songs, from indie rock (Wilco, Arcade Fire, AgesandAges) to country (Montgomery Gentry), from Al Green‘s soul music to Ricky Martin‘s easy pop. And there are some great names as well: Bruce Springsteen, Aretha Franklin, U2, Earth, Wind andFire…
In other words, a very ‘democratic’ playlist crossing genres and decades, which has already given rise to a frenzy of interpretations. Why are there so many patriot roots-rockers and not a single hip hop artist? The debate is open!
