On January 27, 1967, singer-songwriter Luigi Tenco committed sucicide during the Festival di Sanremo as an act of protest against the choices of the Italian public. Five years later, in the same town, a group of enthusiasts gave birth to Club Tenco, with the aim of promoting and supporting the so called “auteur song”, that Luigi Tenco himself had so properly represented.
The main activity of the Club is a unique event called “Rassegna della canzone d’autore”, an alternative festival awarding every year the most interesting singers and songwriters from Italy and the rest of the world.
This year, the festival will host a couple of eminent veterans of Italian music, both from Apulia: Renzo Arbore and Enzo Del Re. The winners of the Targhe Tenco awards for the best albums of the year – Carmen Consoli, Peppe Voltarelli, Piero Sidoti and Avion Travel – will also take part to the event, along with some of the festival’s regulars, i.e. Samuele Bersani, Vinicio Capossela, Morgan, Nada and Skiantos.
As usual, part of the “Rassegna” will be devoted to the most talented up-and-coming artists of the Italian music scene.
