A taste of Jerusalem

A town at the crossing of three great religions. That’s Jerusalem, sacred to Christians, Muslims and Jews.
A place of worship as well as a beautiful and vibrant city.

One of Jerusalem’s liveliest spots is Mahane Yehuda Market, located in the Old City between Jaffa Gate and Temple Mount, the ideal starting point for plunging into the tastes of this historic city.

The locals simply call it  “the shuk” and it’s so crowded and cahotic that, to help people find their bearings, the smaller streets inside it have been named after fruits and nuts -  because food is what they mostly sell here, along with spices and jewish specialties.

To many, Mahane Yehudi is Israel’s favourite culinary destination, a veritable street food mecca. With some 250 stalls and its adjoined restaurans and kiosks, the shuk offers foods from a large variety of Jewish communities from all over the world, and some really inviting opportunities for street food lovers.

Just don’t let the hustle and bustle scare you off – the food is definitely worth the effort, especially if you manage to reach Georgian Market, a tiny square hosting a bakery and some small stalls selling real delicacies.
At night, the whole area gets even busier with people crowding the bars and cafes inside and around the market.
