Once again, Torino Film Festival came to an end with great results in terms of press and public. Everything culminated in the enthusiasm of the closing evening on December 3rd, with the final award ceremony. Here are the winners.

First of all, the winner of the main contest, Icelandic film director Hafsteinn G. Sigurdsson, with his debut work A Annan Veg (Either Way), the story of two road builders who are stuck with each other in an isolated place, resulting in unexpected consequences. By choosing this film, said the festival’s director Gianni Amelio, the jury awarded a young director and his low-budget production, in the hope of giving him a better chance in terms of distribution.

Quite the same could be said about the other movies featured (and awarded) at TFF. And particularly about the films that won the Special Jury Award ex-aequo : 17 Filles (France) and Tayeb, Khallas, Yalla (Ok, Enough, Goodbye) (Lebanon)

L’orogenesi, a witty and refined account of Italian history through its myths and legends told by Italian actor Giorgio Albertazzi, is the winner of Italiana Doc Award, while Les Eclats, a French film on migrant people, has been awarded the prize for the Best International Documentary.

Canadian movie Le Vendeur, telling about a car dealer overwhelmed by the financial crisis, gained both Premio Fipresci and Premio Cipputi (the latter specifically devoted to films focusing on work issues).

Yet, besides the high quality of the awarded movies, what will remain of this year’s edition is a deep sense of gratitude towards the Festival’s management, which managed to set up a great event in a time of crisis and cutbacks.
