It would not be summer without the music festivals. Check out the major events – from the US to Europe and Japan.

HISTORIC FESTIVALS
Starting from the decades-long events that have made the history of music, we have Montreaux Jazz Festival (until July 16), featuring jazzmen and bluesmen such as B.B.King and John John McLaughlin – as well as popstars such as Sting and Arcade Fire.

The Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island (July 30 – 31) will be hosting both folk artists and indie rock idols like M. Ward and The Decemberists.

Finally, the Reading and Leeds Festivals, in the U.K. (August 26 – 28), will round it all off perfectly with some of the best rock artists of the current and preceding generation: Muse, Pete Doherty and the recently reformed Pulp and Jane’s Addiction.

INDIE, ROCK, AND ELECTRONIC
Less illustrious but equally exciting ,here are some of the world-famous emerging festivals.

Pitchfork Music Festival is the place to be for all indie rock enthousiasts; Animal Collective, Deerhunter and Tv On The Radio will all be there from July 15 to 17.

Also in Benicàssim (July 14 -17), there’s going to be a lot of indie music; the Portuguese festival will host the much-loved Arcade Fire and the Strokes, along with the pioneers of trip hod – Portishead.

Fuji Rock Festival (July 29 – 31), will feature a similar music scenery on a different background: Japan’s Mount Fuji. The line-up includes indierockers such as Beach House and the Arctic Monkeys, as well as huge stars – namely Wilco and Coldplay.

Chicago’s Lollapalooza (August 5 – 7) will star the usual lavish line-up, with crowd-drawing artists such as Eminem and the Foo Fighters.

Last but not least, Budapest’s  Szigeti Festival (August 8 -15) will try to balance between rock and electronig music in the best possible way – with The National, The Chemical Brothers and La Roux.
