The City is a stage
New York City is a magnet for creativity – this is common knowledge, of course, but rarely has someone depicted its relationship with art with photographer Dane Shitagi’s gentleness and poetry.
Originally from Honolulu but based in the City, Dane sees New York as a living thing and a place to explore, drawing inspiration from its sights and sounds.
The Ballerina Project is a project that took shape right on the streets, a delicate set of images crafted entirely on traditional photographic film over the span of ten years .
The ethereal bodies of the dancers stand out against a rough backdrop of buildings, walls, subway tracks and signs, and the effect is enchanting.
This is not dance photography but a collection of small etchings born out of a striking combination of arts. A true delight for the eyes.
