Torino 28
The programme is wide and rather interesting, featuring a great diversity: there are big names (attracting the press and the public) as well as rarities that you won’t find anywhere else in Italy (attracting enthusiasts), not to mention retrospectives (one of which is dedicated this year to John Huston).
Still, like every year, what stands out is the presence of young directors . A good reason for that might be the fact that the Festival was bornas an event originally devoted to the on-screen depiction of young people and their worlds; as a matter of fact, unlike in Venice, here in Turin the main competitive section is reserved to directors making their first, second or third film. \u2028This year, 16 movies – including just one Italian film – will partecipate in the competition.
“A Moveable Feast” – the out-of-competition section – is one of the few chances for film buffs to see movies that have never been previously screened in Italy. But the most prominent feature of this new edition (presenting 234 titles in all) is a great assortment of genres that are usually quite hard to find in the mainstream circuits.
Apart from the traditional sections devoted to Italian short movies and documentaries, this year the Festival will host a specific section dedicated to horror movies, a genre that has lately attracted a huge number of young and independent directors. Finally, the “Waves” section will present an experimental mixture of genres and formats.
Too much on the plate? See what you can do. Opening in Turin on November26.
