Travel companions
There’s a map of the things to do on your own in Paris, a map of the most unusual sites in Glasgow and a map teaching you how to how to find old New York – just to mention a few. And each of them is quite unique, featuring a graphic style and a set of illustrations inspired by a specific area or period in time.
The author of these small wonders is Herb Lester Associates, a small London-based publishing house researching, writing, printing and distributing maps and guides to the world’s great cities, in collaboration with many exceptional illustrators and designers.
What will probably strike you the most is the diversity of their rich and inventive graphic styles, coupled with light and small formats. Yet, there’s also a lot of research work involved, since every map is very specific and devoted to a selection of unusual and useful destinations in town.
In other words, your new must-have travel companions. Check out Herb Lester’s website for online shopping. In the picture above: Where The Sidewalk Ends: How to find old New York, illustrated by Jim Datz.
