Rockstars, writers and comic-strip writers. There will be more than just movie stars and directors at the next edition of Festival del Cinema in Venice. After 67 years of history, every year becomes a new challenge to attract the press and the public.
For the first time ever, this year all the movies taking part to the official competition will be international previews – a good occasion to take a look at the next season of world cinema.
George Clooney’s fourth directorial effort, The Ides of March, is one of the most awaited movies, along with Marjane Satrapi’s Poulet aux prunes, David Cronemberg’s film on Freud and psychoanalysis, and Emanuele Crialese’s Terraferma (see picture above).
The works of Abel Ferrara, Philippe Garrel, Roman Polanski, Aleksander Sokurov, Todd Solondz and Japanese director Sion Sono will also be competing for the Leone d’Oro
As for the rockstars, Madonna will be at the Lido to present her brand new movie, W.E. (not for competition) and Italian singer/songwriter Vasco Rossi will star in a documentary by Alessandro Paris and Sibylle Righetti.
The works of Al Pacino and Ermanno Olmi are found among the out-of-competition films, while the Festival will pay homage to acclaimed directors Nicholas Ray and Roberto Rossellini. Italian director Marco Bellocchio will be awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.
