This cute little animal is very friendly, and has been nicknamed the happiest animal in the world because of its smiling face. The quokkas will approach people without fear, and enjoy having many selfies taken with the tourists!
A visit from these happy animals, especially when they see food at lunchtime, is guaranteed: it is almost impossible not to see one, given that the local quokka population numbers around 10,000 and that there are many conservation projects underway.
Camel rides at sunset
Australia
A line of camels walking down a stunning 22-kilometre-long beach, while the sun sinks into the Indian Ocean and the sky is painted with fifty shades of red and orange. This may sound like a dream but it’s actually reality every evening on Cable Beach, in Broome.
Broome is a sunny, welcoming, multicultural city in the north-west of Western Australia; its incredible natural beauty, stunning turquoise waters and vast white sandy beaches make it a compulsory stop in the spectacular Kimberley region.
Camels and Cable Beach go together like a horse and carriage: the unmissable camel rides at sunset (or even sunrise, if you are an early bird) are the most famous activity in Broome. The rides along the beautiful Cable Beach take about one hour, and are both relaxing and informative.
Bear in mind that there are only four companies providing the rides, and the cost per person is around 100AUD. If you prefer a cheaper option, rides are available during the day for about 50AUD.
Underwater dining
Maldives
The Maldives are well known for their stunning beaches and tranquillity, but they also have a surprise in store. Almost 5 metres below the Indian Ocean is the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant, one of the world's finest underwater eateries, where you can watch fish in their natural habitat while enjoying the European cuisine or sipping a cocktail.
Located at the Conrad Rangali Maldives Island Resort, the restaurant boasts a magical entrance.
Starting from a wooden pier and reaching a straw pavilion, it leads down a dark staircase to a small transparent glass room, 9 metres long and 5 metres wide, where dolphins, sharks, octopus, manta rays and turtles will keep you company while you eat.
The food is said to be excellent too, in this restaurant which only seats 14 diners. In keeping with the mood of these islands, in fact, the restaurant offers a relaxing, untroubled environment where you can enjoy gourmet dishes.
