The Pattern Effect

A wealth of flowers, checks and unique designs to turn your shirt into a style statement

T

here was a time when a man’s wardrobe would mostly include solid colour shirts in neutral shades. Luckily, today the rules of style have relaxed somewhat, and so while the neutral solid colour dogma still applies to formal dress codes, bright colours and patterns are perfectly eligible even for semi-formal occasions, provided that you match them with pieces that are not too prominent.
If the fabric is premium, the pattern sophisticated and the colour palette not excessively flashy, a patterned shirt can become a bold style statement and add a touch of personality to smart casual attire, especially if paired with a tailored blazer.
