While aquariums and zoos across Japan have been put on temporary lockdown, you can still see all their beautiful dwellers, in a number of scenes filmed in high definition and released on their official YouTube channels. Who said that aquariums and zoos are for children? Watching fish swim is an effective way to relax, regardless of one’s age.
Hokkaidō: Asahiyama Zoo
Run by Asahiyama City, the zoo was the first to show the natural behaviour of the animals in its premises, a feature which has now become commonplace in all zoos.
Polar bears are the zoo’s darlings. It is just entrancing to observe them as they dive, swim and soak in the huge pool. Other popular videos feature the Siberian tiger cubs born this spring, or the hippopotamuses lying asleep on the waterside.

Kanagawa: Enoshima Aquarium
The aquarium is located in an exceptional setting overlooking the Shōnan Coast, with Mount Fuji on the one side and Enoshima on the other. Its premises are home to over 28,000 sea creatures of approximately 590 species. The Enoshima Aquarium features videos of the Sagami Bay Great Tank, with otters, capybaras and many other living creatures.
